Apple pie is a food full of tradition. The combination of flaky crust, sweet apples and spicy cinnamon conjure up memories of family celebrations and togetherness. It’s not surprising that apple pie is a cultural icon in the United States and the saying ‘as American as apple pie’ is so commonly used.
However as a Canadian the first thing that comes to my mind when one mentions apple pie is probably Jean Chretien’s face. Nonetheless, apple pie is classic, delicious, and unfortunately forbidden for most of us trying to get fit.
Fear not friends! This apple pie smoothie will fill that horrible void in your healthy lives! It is thick, creamy and full of that wonderful pie bliss we long for.
½ cup vanilla fat free yogurt
1 red delicious apple, cut into pieces
1 Tbsp. apple sauce
½ cup milk
1 Tbsp. 7 grain granola
1 Tbsp. unsalted almond butter
1 Tsp. Maple syrup
1 Tsp. honey
¼ Tsp. Ground cinnamon
Combine all ingredients in a blender and pulse until smooth. Serve immediately.
