Happy Mardi Gras

by Kris on February 21, 2012

Happy Mardi Gras! Are you planning on indulging in a delicious Cajun meal or going hog wild with beads and hurricanes? Either way, let the good times roll!

I’ve been so busy re-designing the site that I didn’t get a chance to make all the Mardi Gras recipes I wanted to post for you! Thankfully there is no shortage of incredible food blogs on the internet and many of them have made some great looking Cajun and Creole meals! If you are looking for some New Orleans inspiration for dinner tonight here are my recommendations.

Brown Eyed Baker has a wonderful recipe for Creole Shrimp and Grits on her site right now. If you don’t have Creole seasoning on hand and have had one too many hurricanes to run to the store, try making your own seasoning with my Creole Seasoning Recipe. It’s so simple and I bet you have all the ingredients already in your pantry!

It’s also that time of year down on the Gulf Coast… you guessed it; crawdad season! If you’re looking for some delicious crustacean recipes, pop over to Foodie Crush and check out Heidi’s Lobster Etouffee recipe and five other Cajun crustacean recipes sure to please.

Kevin from Closet Cooking has a recipe for rice and beans with a Cajun flair. Rice and beans never looked so good! Nicole from The Galley Gourmet also has a recipe for chicken and sausage jambalaya which looks pretty darn appetizing.

Looking for something a little more unique? Check out this Cajun mac and cheese by Tessa at Handle the Heat!

If your more in the mood for pancakes today, you have to try these coconut pancakes by Kate from Cookie and Kate. They are simply to die for!

Another pancake recipe I’ve been wanting to try are these Matcha Green Tea Coconut Pancakes by Sonia over at The Healthy Foodie.

And it would not be Mardi Gras without a healthy dose of alcohol! Tina from My Life as a Mrs. has a great hurricane recipe and a little history about the famous drink.

If you have seen some great Mardi Gras Recipes I’d love to hear about them!

Have a great day and laissez les bons temps rouler!

What a great round up and I am pleased that you choose me to be a part of it! Pleasure to come across your blog. Kindest Regards.

Thanks again for recommending my coconut pancakes recipe, Kris! I honestly did not know that pancakes are a Mardi Gras tradition until today. I might have to make coconut pancakes tomorrow to make up for my ignorance. :)

wow, I also had no idea that pancakes went with Mardi Gras. After being in New Orleans last year for the big day, I decided I’d have to celebrate somehow each year, and I decided to do that by making a big pot of gumbo! It’s a great thing. This year I made it vegan, which was still delicious!

I love New Orleans. I haven’t been in over ten years though. This round-up makes me want to visit again soon! Thanks for sharing!
